    New Site of Mine

    http://www.yikers.com/

I suppose this is a "shameless" plug but since I make under $0.50 per day off of it (haven't focused on monetizing the traffic, just building a good community), I think this is a legitimate post.

Regardless, I think you guys will enjoy some of the content there...a lot of it is pretty god damn funny.

    I like it. Looks good!

There are alot of those sites out there. Most of them have 17 banners on the page. I hope your pusuit of monetizing the traffic doesn't take you there.

That's the exact reason I'm avoiding spamming ads everywhere. Nearly every "humor" site out there is just plastered with porn and other ads. The user doesn't know what to click, and what not to click.

I've focused on creating a very straight forward site with next to no ads (and when there is one, you know it's an ad), with a lot of content and easy navigation. We'll see how it does.

good luck man. I wanted to do something like that, but I havn't had the time.

Its seems like that is a very good way to use keywords to capitalize on current events that might bring extra searches.

Yeah - I'm already on a daily crawl from Inktomi and Google. I've only had the site up about a month, so I expect another 1-3 months before I get any decent search results.

Regardless, the project is fun to do and doesn't require much time (now that the site is designed and setup, just a guy on salary to add new content). It might be a decent way to filter traffic to other niche's. Big-boys.com gets about 600,000 uniques per day (8,100,000 page views) and killsometime.com gets ~300,000 uniques per day (3,000,000 pae views).

It's amazing how a post on this forum regarding a new model (which isn't really new, just a plug for a content provider) gets endless attention...or a thread for something else assinine.

And a legit post gets 2 replies. Why I stopped posting here is all coming back to me now, fast.

Sorry man, had to go finish off some BBQ.

Having someone do the content is a major plus.

Some of the obstacles I faced was the amount of bandwidth necessary and feeder traffic for trades.

Its seemed to me that most trades for that type of site were all or nothing. Not much quality in the 50 visits per day trade catagory. I'm not sure how to get that going to feed the trades right off.

Keep in mind, I didn't make it my main priority, but I plan to get back to it.

Thanks for the replies - I'm glad everybody likes it.

FunForOne: Bandwidth is so cheap now-a-days - you can get 2800 gigs @ ev1servers.net on a reasonable plan (dual xeon server). Or just a simple 10 mbps line will do the trick for the most part.

Once you break a certain thresh hold in traffic, it has the snowball effect: you move up on traffic exchanges, which in return send you more traffic. This is a very good example to prove the "quality sites succeed" model. You can exchange traffic all day long, but if your visitors are going to return, what's the point? When you create a good site, recurring visitors are inevitable...and ultimately where the money is at.
