Yeah keep re-inforcing the idea to surfers that everything on the net should be free or practically free!

Why does DRM suck? It seems to me that if done right DRM rocks.

How is not using DRM giving things away for free? You still have to pay for a membership.

And then members can give away the stuff they downloaded.

It only rocks if you're the webmaster, and its making you lots of money. To everyone else, it sucks, and is bound to piss off a lot of users who either don't like it, or are too stupid to get a compatible player.

Well I'm pissed that I don't get to eat at McDonald's for free everyday. I'm never going there again. now that they don't have my business any day now they start giving food out for free.

Ok if I go to a porn shop or even online anI buy and actual porn DVD it might cost me $20. for the same price I get one month membership to a paysite and download hundreds of not 1000's of DVDs worth of content. You don't see a problem with that?

DRM is a great idea in concept unfortunatly the implementaions often deployed make it a huge pain in the ass for surfers. I speak in terms of membership sites (not ppv or vod)

It seems like more and more early adopters of the technology are now setting it aside.

Well that I can agree. Some sites ask you for your memebrship info for EVERY fricken video you want to see. Once you've given the info ONCE in a session they should not have to ask for it again and again. I can see why that would piss off a surfer.

Fact is once you are not a memebr of of a site why should you have access ot the content still? Do you go to a video store and rent a DVD or rent a movie on PPV( I'm talking non porn ) with the expectation of keeping it forever? No you ACCEPT the fact you are paying for a TEMPORARY viewing window. Why shouldn't pay site also have this same expectation?

Users hate it, thats a fact. As long as there are sites without DRM, those who are intelligent enough to know what it is will prefer those over sites with DRM.

If McDonalds charges $1.49 for 300 hamburgers while Wendys charges $1.49 per hamburger, where do you think people will want to eat?

The only way DRM will succeed if its ubiquitous and doesn't cause technical troubles/annoyances, which isn't going to happen.

People don't download movies and give them to other people any more. People dont' have time for that stuff. They all download for themselves and start their own collection. They will remain members when they can keep getting more movies. Plus, you rarely watch a porn movie a second time and I can't recall the last time I watched one from start to finish.

People are too time starved, they just want quick, fast, easy and good porn!

I don't understand DRM lets them watch the videos they've DL'ed as long as they're members right? So who fucking cares after they're no longer members if they can't watch the vids or not. Fack em?

Yeah, but that "fuck the members" ideology is what causes the poor retention the threadstarter is referring to. As long as people can get non-DRMed videos somewhere, the video download sites using DRM will suffer.

fireorange, people don't do that anymore, there is no point to it at all. Why share your movies with tons of other people when you don't get anything in return. The movies found on Kazaa and other p2p networks are all shitty and most of the times not even the files you think you are trying to download.

True however many wm's put short watermarked clips INTENTONALY on p2p to generate traffic/sales - it can cut both ways.

But do you think the people who browse kazaa for porn, many of them underage, would buy paysite memberships in the first place?

All it takes is one user to leak it, via a hacked password or his own. Do a search for "bangbus" or whatever and you'll see the number of results.

exactly if you ever take a look at some peer to peer networks like bearshare you can download a load of full videos from many popular internet sites
