Yes, maybe it explains it for the sponsors who are paying per signup. But the one with Partnership Programs - I'm sure they do not shave.
There is also some other things that I am concern with...
Like - one sponsor that I use offer a customer support website to "facilitate" unsubscriptions and to help their customers with common problems such as browser compatibilities, etc. It's pretty common these days!
But, I took a membership to one of their sites the other day and I went thru their system to cancel my trial subsciption. Their system then told me that my request was succesfully processed and I won't be billed again. I then went to their processor to verify if my subscription was, in fact, cancelled.
I wasn't surprised to see that my subscription was still ACTIVE and not cancelled. So I told myself "I'll check back later, maybe they are batching stuff". So I went the following day and my subscription was still ACTIVE.
I then went back to their Customer Service site and I unsubscribed AGAIN. I then returned to their processor to check things - and my membership was still ACTIVE. So, I then sent an email to the Customer Service of the site in question to let them know what happened. They obviously - didn't get back to me.
So I waited a couple days - my membership renewed to a full month membership like I was expecting and I then cancelled my membership thru the Payment Processor page without problems.
I repeated the same experience 3 times at 2 weeks intervals - and still... they SAME THING HAPPENED.
I totaly agree that we can make it "more difficult" to unsubcribe - but this is maybe too much. This might be why this sponsor can pay big commision on trial membership of their exclusive content sites.
What do you think?
