Why not do both ?
If you're good at it the cash or stock you win can increase your real life portfolio, so in any case you can only gain some, not loose some
Besides, it's pretty fun taking chances I'd never take with my real portfolio, like buying 12000 shares in PartyGaming just because it droped 60% today
