They've had Peachtree street blocked off since last night. Traffic is totally fucked up. Already one of the worst spots in ATL for traffic. Now it's a nightmare.

Florida officials identified the man as Carl Edward Roland, 41, who was wanted by the Pinellas County, Florida, sheriff's department in the slaying of his former girlfriend.

The badly beaten body of Jennifer L. Gonzalez, 36, was found in a pond Tuesday.

The cops stayed on the crane with him all night. Maybe they gave him some food and drink. I wonder if he has taken a shit or piss from a couple hundred feet up.

With temperatures about 60 degrees F at 10 a.m. Thursday, Roland approached authorities stationed on a platform at the end of the crane and accepted a jacket before moving back a few feet and sitting. Shortly afterward, he moved again -- farther out on the crane.

Authorities have been giving the man food and water, an Atlanta Fire Department official. To keep him from falling asleep, officials have blared a bullhorn occasionally.

Police said Roland has a sharp instrument with him.

Authorities initially planned to set up a net or air bag underneath the crane to catch the man should he fall or jump, but they concluded that plan wouldn't work because he was too high up, the fire official said.

I just drove by there as close as I could get. There are about 20 news vans and Satelite Dishes in the street. Hundreds of people standing around. Every Major news organization. People are set up with Lawn chairs and Tripods with cameras. It's quite crazy. There are a bunch of bars with decks across the street filled with people drinking beer waiting for something to happen.

Someone did that here, when a dude was jamming up traffic on the bridge during early moring rush hour. The cops aressted the guy for "surporting a criminal act" or something stupid like that.
