This is why they invented savings and insurance. Many people face hardships in their lives. In fact, most people do. I do not see the urgent need for you to receive >$16000 in charity. I hate to call this a bait-and-switch but that's what it seems like. I could understand if you had to go to the US for treatment, but contrary to popular belief, we have very competent doctors in Canada. I myself have donated over $5000 to Sick Kids in Toronto since 2000.

I find this whole thing shameful.
Could not agree with you more. My heart goes out to NC and his son, but if your medical expenses are covered fully and you are financially strapped, then you should ask relatives and friends. Not go on a board and say my son has a brain tumor which will be fully covered by insurance, but I need money to live.

I have been in a similar situation and my parents and family helped me out greatly fortunately. I think it is in poor taste to ask strangers to pay for your living expenses and try to mask it as paying for a surgery that is fully covered.

Agreed 100%. Could not be more right on this one.
