I've noticed that it really depends on how long the movie stays in the theaters. If they can sell tickets for a long time, expect release pretty late. If its in and out, like F and the F, expect release pretty quick.

Most movies are coming to DVD within 3-6 months after they finish their run in theatres. It's partly to prevent/reduce piracy, but mostly to capitalize on DVD sales while there's still talk about the movie.
