I live in orlando. lovbe it, so much to do. of course we do have to get snakes out of the pool, gators out of the lake and keep plywood on hand for the storms

Typical fort lauderdale reaction... I live in Miami, and I don't speak spanish. And I get along fine.

Frankly, I LIKE the fact that Miami is so "spicy" and mixed up. Fort Lauderdale is so segregated... white people in one area, latins in another, blacks in another. In Miami you have white, south american, black, european, russian, etc... all mixed in together... That's the way I like it

about a 40 minute drive down I-95 maybe 35 miles from the center of pompano to the center of Miami

My Cuban/Spanish cousins and friends who LIVE there can't stand each other to the point they want to move to places like S. Dakota.

Why not consider moving to Costa Rica?
Its like florida, but more people speak english. You can own a mansion for around $300,000, friendly people, friendly government towards americans and adult entertainment, great place to host trade shows, no tax on revenue earned outside Costa Rica. Also remember that US citizens don't have to pay tax on their first $70,000 if your legal residence is outside the US.

Tons of americans live there, and it is a beautiful, exotic place. It is also only a short flight to California

There isn't a "segregated tone" I'm telling you my opinion that fort lauderdale and points north of it ARE segregated.

I find the people in fort lauderdale to be very snobby about Miami and how everyone is spanish-speaking there, and I think that it's crap. I find the fact is that when you are in a nice neighborhood in Miami you see all kinds of races, and when you are in a nice neighborhood in fort lauderdale it's all white.

South Florida is the absolute best all around place to live. Nothing else comes close and I've been all over the US.

Anywhere from South Beach/Miami up to Ft. Lauderdale up to Palm Beach. They are all a bit different but all great.

South Beach is the hottest spot in the country if you like round the clock action.
Its got the same cosmopolitan high charged energy of Manhattan and LA. Restaurants open into the wee hours of the morning. Clubs go all night long and even to past the sun coming up. Celebs are moving here like never before. Very hip. Very trendy. Money. Lots of Europeans here also. The creative types are here. The models are here. The Rodeo Drive level coutoure shops are here. The ultra chic restaurants and nightclubs are here.

Ft. Lauderdale is hot also. Its hard to describe the difference, but its like Miami in many ways but with the energy level down a notch or two. In Miami you feel like you are in an international city. Ft. Lauderdale feels more resort and kick back on the yacht like. Lots of young people here. More yachts, sailboats and powerboats are docked here than anywhere else in the entire world. If you love boating this is the place to be. Shopping is also high end and great restaurants as well.

Palm Beach County has the most money. Its extremely wealthy and very expensive though still not as bad as LA or NYC. From Boca to Palm Beach is where you'll find almost all the Forbes 400 crowd during the winters. Palm Beach is old blueblood money. Boca Raton / Delray Beach is mostly all newer wealth and the younger set. Lots of tech companies here. The first personal computer the IBM PC was developed in Boca Raton. Fantastic shopping. Beautiful properties. Way cleaner looking than Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. Folks here are a bit stuck up like in Beverly Hills / Bel Air.

The weather is the best part of Florida. It gets a bit humid at times but you get very used to it quickly and its actually great for your skin vs. the dry heat of California. The temperature is always tropical. Hurricans are an inconvenience mostly and sometimes create disasters, but unlike earthquakes which come unexpectedly, hurricanes give you advance warning. So if you don't want to ride them out you can split and come back when they've passed. I've been here 11 years now and only one hurricane came near here and it wasn't anything as bad as I thought it would be. Bascially just felt like a nonstop powerful wind for about 6 hours and then it was just like any other storm.

The people are really the best part of Florida. From all over the world so you get a nice blend of everything. I love the southern vibe. You get very attached to this state and it has so much you really don't need to leave except when you want to see snow or go skiing. Everything else is here.
