Most likely because saying they don't 'believe' him will give him the urge to shut everyone up by posting the stats and then they can all get excited by it
Or simply if they've never been close to that with all the hours they put in, then it seems impossible for anyone else to do it.
Regardless if it's a .10 sale or a $42.00 sale - his statement was that it was a 1000 sales. Yes it makes a difference in HIS bank account, but maybe it was a goal he was working towards - so it's an accomplishment nonetheless.
