    New laptop, what do you suggest?

    I have killed 2 laptops this week.
    My dell had been spiraling towards death for a couple of weeks and it finally kicked the other day. So I moved on to my wifes dell and it promptly died. Neither of them were in great shape to begin with, I think hers will be fine after some work, but I need a new one. I need to get something that is a desktop replacement and is going to stand up to abuse.
    I'm not particularly happy with Dells laptops.

              well did I tell we started a Dell alike line as well, the DutchTeenCash PC? Its cheap, and made from standard components, this is a budget pc we made for a customer last week

                      Does anyone here actually own and Alienware pc or laptop?
                      I've seen the website and heard that they are sweet. But never seen one in real life.
                      I just configured a laptop, it made it to $3k very quickly.
                      I was hoping to be closer to like $2200.

                          I know a few people with them.... pretty damn sweet... but I can't justify spending the extra so I went with Dell

                                              Whatever you get, don't buy an HP, those fuckers merged with Compaq the shittiest computer of all time, I only found this out after gutting an HP laptop only to discover it was full of compaq hardware.

                                                          For desktops my dells have always been top notch. But I have 2 dell laptops and they have been nothing but trouble. While under warranty they probably replaced every part at least once. Now I'm outside of my warranty.

                                                              Has come in for a bit of criticism in reviews but it`s been a great purchase for me particularly with it`s huge screen.

                                                                                  I like HP (http://www.hp.com/) very much. There is online constructor there - you can choose configuration what you need and see the price for it.

                                                                                  I have HP zt3340 - I'm happy with it. But prefere to work on my desktop at home.

                                                                                      I have the dell 700M , got it for 750$ on 1 of the dell coupon sales

                                                                                      it depends if you need a laptop for home use or travel

                                                                                      i only use mine when i travel...so the 700M is perfect weights less then 2kg and the battery i got for it lasts easily for over 5 hours (tested watching movies on a plane)

                                                                                                              I love my one year old Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop. You may want to get a Pentium M chip, like the Inspiron 9300 or even the XPS Gen 2 laptop they run fast as much faster clock speed Pentium 4 cpu's but they have a bigger cache and much better battery life. Great for general use, even fast enough for video editing in my case. Plus the optional docking station Dell sells makes it great for home office use.

                                                                                                                              There is more than one brand of pc with a good price to performance ratio. And how are Dell's for novices? I have three Dell desktops and one Dell laptop and they have all worked flawlessly for a combined total of several years lifespan. I'm editing movies and authoring DVDs on my systems, pushing them to their limits every day.

The desktop I'm on right now I've had for about 30 months now and is still working like a champ, I will not be replacing it anytime soon. I had it serviced once, but I think that was due to some software screwing up the drivers.

                                                                                                                                          My laptop is mainly for travel and back-up use, I have seriously only used it 3 times since I've bought it, but have no complaints so far. Price was about $1,100.
