Believe It Or Not!!! Pornsite Pattent Issued

Be on the look out and protect your intellectual property:

Porn paysite patent issued to Passgate Corp

A patent was issued to Passgate of New York that purports to cover what
every adult paysite does: signs up members with credit cards, charges the
card, issues a password and gives them access to content. The patent,
#6879965, was applied for in 2001 and issued on April 12, 2005.

A "patent on porn" would certainly be a funny patent to have granted, but looking at the details of the patent http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-P...&RS=PN/6879965)

this patent is more geared towards sites like Amazon, and doesn't seem to affect any adult sites.

The patent talks about a centralized place where CC info and user info is maintained (at the website). Paysites use third party billers, so this isn't covered.

              Fight the Patent!

It was applied for in 2001 and accepted? Paysites have been around as early as 1995. I'm sure prior use examples can be found rather easily here.
