Vatican spokesman Federico Lombardi has tried to defuse anger, saying the pope did not intend to offend Muslim sensibilities and insisting Benedict respects Islam. In Pakistan, the Vatican envoy voiced regret at "the hurt caused to Muslims."
Muslim leaders were unappeased.
"We do not accept the apology through Vatican channels ... and ask him (Benedict) to offer a personal apology ? not through his officials," Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, Lebanon's most senior Shiite cleric, told worshippers in Beirut."
There was an alert bulletin for Government Employees & Officials who have security clearances, recommending that all classified personnel secure their homes with a 3-6 month supply of non perishable food, bottled water and staples such as toilet paper, etc. In addition they were advised to requisition a minimum of 1000 rounds of ammunition per weapon of issue, this is for both side arms and rifles. All personnel are advised to be accutely aware of their surroundings as credible threats of bombing attacks and suicide runs have been uncovered.
This is going to get MUCH worse over the next few years. God (Or whatever it is that you believe in) help us all!
