MSN, Google, Yahoo in that order although Google may end up in last place soon.
Google's over zealousness with spam means the results are often shit now. Whatever you believe about the 'sandbox' the fact is many, many new sites don't make good placings for a very long time and that fucks Google up. Quite often the stuff I want will be on a newer site. If it's an established site chances are I'll have a bookmark anyway or know the URL and just go straight there so wouldn't need Google in the first place.Ignorance is never bliss.

Yahoo is decent enough for searches also. I use Google + Yahoo most of the time for checking sites but never normally search using any of the other directories / engines.
It`s a wonder how most of the others survive.
Just pulled this off about.com which probably demonstrates how difficult it is to compete in this field (probably a little old because of the indexed numbers showing but the last sentence obviously highlights again the sheer dominance of Google):
