MrC:
Why is he a fly-by-night hosting company? Because he posted a question?
That's an interesting theory.... moron.Comment

I've had a new site of my own (not CE) where I registered the domain, emailed phatservers to add the site. Within 20 minutes from registering the domain, my site was live.
If you are talking about changing DNS on an existing site, that's another story.

lol, I'm the idiot add 2 and 2 together the thread title implies hes asking to find out then you look at the post and it implies hes asking other people but if you look further its edited? mmm? Yet he owns a hosting company and doesn't know this simple god damn question? So I'm a idiot eh?Originally posted by Michele R.MrC:

i just change dns and let it sit for one or two days and go back to check on the status of it all.
Often times I wonder why
There's love and hate, theres live or die.
When sickness comes I must decide:
When feelings go, theres suicide.

Learn how to write a sentence properly you fucking idiot.
He asked a question -- get over it.
I personally take offense to you bashing him. I have 2 dedicated servers there they are far from fly-by-night.
Let me buy you a shared hosting account with them and then draw an opinion, until then put a sock in it.

the question isnt really about how long propogation takes. The issue is that when you change hosts or name servers you should go offline if your new host has you setup because it goes to the old host. So when a host tells you it hasnt propegated yet and your site is offline its because they havent set you up yet. I think this is the point of the thread for all you newbies. Dont be suckered by a host who tells you that it hasnt propegated yet, if its still exists at the old host then your site should still be online.Big Boob trades icq 265907826Comment

well, there are actually 2 answers to this, but surprising that a colleague of sorts is asking this. If you are only making a record change on dns servers it can be like 20 minutes.maybe a few hours. This means that domain .com has its dns on ns1.isp.com and the isp.com admin is changing www.domain.com from 10.x.x.2 to 192.168.x.2 ( iknow these are all fake ip's or for internal use). BUT if you are moving your domain records to a new dns server such as where domain .com has its dns on ns1.isp.com and is moving it to ns1.isp2.com, that can take a while.still see it take 2 days. As an ISP guy I like to have the dns records for my clients, but I will tell youthe truth, keep your dns records where only you control them. if you don't know dns, then ask and learn. I still do a lot of registry at register.com. expensive, yes, but you can do your own dns there. otherwise i am usin ultra dns a lot lately and have my big multi domain clients there too. that way i am never more than 20 minutes or so from a domain change.Comment

We know the answer to the question.... Just needed some unbiased opinions for a newbie who was unsure of the time needed for domain propogation after transfering his domain to us. He is new to the game and thought 24-48 was too long and that we were doing something "fishy" to his account.
Thanks for the answers guys, you helped answer his question!Comment
