    If i was a cop and outside of the car when he ran at me i would have shot him "to kill " also , because he was too close to shoot in the leg to stop him..

    BUT

    They didnt need to get out of the car in the first place.

    Im not sure if any of you saw the recent knife wielding man in toronto canada.

    Almost the same scenario , man with a knife in the middle of the street and no civilians within sight..

    Instead of shooting the man instead one of the cops just got into his poice cruiser and ran him down. It makes alot more sense, the guy didnt even get injured nor any cop or civilian. Chances are your not going to kill the guy by running him down at 10 mph, but you will disarm him.

                                                        there are levels of use of force a police officer can use, it starts off with just a grab (open hand), then gets into pepper spray, closed hand, baton, rubber bullets, reall bullets, etc.

                                                        The officers usually go 1 up, if you go to grab an officer, they'll put out pepper spray or use a closed hand to punch - if you punch an officer, they'll hit you with their baton - they do it in order to control the situation...

                                                        needless to say, you run at an officer with a knife, they'll shoot you. It's legal, and it happens many times during the year. Now the key is "running towards the officer."

                                                            And while the beanbag could have saved this guys life, most departments do not have these, mostly do to lack of money on the departments. Believe it or not many of the police and fire departments operate on skeleton budgets.

                                                            Most people vote NO to millages that could help increase the monies provided to these departments. Not trying to get into a big tax discussion but, my point was that most departments dont have these and if they do they are in select vehicles they may have to wait to arrive on scene. These guys didn't have a chance and they gave the guy plenty of opporunity to drop the knife.

                                                                                            At first the thing looked fake to me. Yet what I hope the public gets is that this is how death is dealt. It ain't Hollywood. It ain't make-believe. Notice how dude was shot with a shotgun but didn't fly backwards off his feet in slow motion? Noooo because it wuddn't a special effect.

                                                                                            Had I been there as an officer I would have blown his ass away too. Reason being three-fold:

                                                                                            1.) He did not comply to the command to stop while holding a deadly weapon.

                                                                                            2.) A man with a knife who is highly trained how to use one is a nightmare. He could have either killed an officer in 2 seconds or held one in a hostage situation. No. His ass had to go.

                                                                                            3.) He was barely clothed. Nothing to hold onto in a non-lethal force engagement. The odds of subdueing him was not good. His ass had to go.

                                                                                            Duddn't take a webmaster of a rocket scientist website to see the situation here.

                                                                                            I was raised by cops, grew up around cops and thank God each and every single one of them has come home after a day's work because they were professionally trained and tolerated no bullshit.

                                                                                                                                                                        Police are taught to shoot to kill not to mame or wound. If their life is threatened they will shoot to kill. If they wound the guy he will come back and sue the department. That situation was handled within perfect paramaters of the law . Pepper spray did nothing, the man lunged at the officer, endangering his life, they opened fire. End of story by the book!
