Iv'e probably caught about a dozen 200+ lb'ers within 3 miles off on newport beach... ( and ive swam with them as well )

Threshers rarely maul humans. Mostly Lemon, Tiger, Mako and White sharks doing all the damage. There hasnt been a shark attack at the beach in NB for a long time.

When we go out here we see sharks all the time.. Most the time they are hammerheads and will swim right next to you without much bother..

I read years ago, that the story Jaws was influenced by a true story that happened off of San Pedro..it was an article in Parade magazine if I recall.

I used to boogie board off of Venice Beach and I remember the first time a shark swam under neath me...just a sand shark...freaked my shit out even tho' I knew there had to be a bunch in the area anyway..I didn't go back into the water for a month...LOL
That movie Jaws totally fucked me up for life.

Edited to add part of the story...if I recall the article there were some guys who had caught a big shark and it dragged their boat around for days.
