BroadBand VOIP Telephone Services.. Anyone use it?? Im getting it tomorrow.

Closing down my accounts with the phone company tomorrow, and switching our home over to broadband voip..

Vonage and some other companies are really marketing hard as of late.

Yet I dont know anyone who uses em yet.

Leaving a perfectly good phone service like Verizon to go broadband for no good reason is kinda asking for trouble, but Im doing it anyhow..

Anyone else move away from the traditional phone and phone lines for thier home or biz and go broadband??

Whats cool is you can set up several area codes as your home or biz phone if you like.

So that if you travel a lot to places like Newyork or Vegas or Seattle a lot, you can have your phone use all three area codes so its not long distance to call home or have people in those areas call you.

I know one person who set it up for his parents who live in india and gave them a Oregon areacode.. So whenever he calls his parents he just dials a local number and he calls India as if its a local number.

      Damn.

      What was I thinking..

I needed to post some pics of tits, or put something about my cock in the subject title to get looks..

Anyhow, if anyone actually has this shit or knows anyone, let me know how they like it.

It strange I dont know a single person who has it execpt for these stories of a family from india.

      Shit.

        Hey Bonerprone,
I switched to AT&T VOIP about 2 months ago, for $30 I get unlimited local and long distance and all the fancy phone options like call waiting, caller id, 3 way calling, voicemail, etc. It's also cool because you can check your messages and incoming calls online. The only thing I discovered that wasn't on their website was with AT&T atleast, you can't send faxes over IP. No big deal for me, but it might be a problem for someone else. Also for some reason whenever the phone rings I loose my wireless connection, lol I just got wireless and it's probably something I've done but our home phone doesn't ring enough for me to have taken the time to try to figure it out yet.
I gotta tell ya, so far I love it. It's saving me about $14 bucks a month on my phone bill and I didn't even have long distance service before

            damn..

            unlimited long distance????

            Shit.. Thats real good.

I have to pay 5 cents a minute. But I get up to 10 phone numbers with differnent area codes.

            for 24.95 a month.

I like your deal better I think. But I dont ever really call long distance.. And I do travel a lot.. Still your deal sounds like its better.

Hows the quality of the sound in the phone.. Is there distortion between that and your broadband internet connection?

I have it here over a cable modem and its ok for the most part. I still have a landline to my office since there are times that the lines crap out thanks to the cable serivce being stretched to the limits when kids are home in my area or holidays.

Vonyage has some cool features but there are quite a few other players that have far more to offer in terms of packages and offerings for additional applications ( video conf, web conf, app sharing, etc) that you may want to check out.

I switched from Verizon to brighthouse and I'm happy. There were some issues with wiring at first because of our alarm system but it's all working now. Broadband is a lot cheaper here for the phone. I kept my same phone number and the service includes caller ID, 3 way, voicemail, and all my long distance. I think it's about 29.95 a month and I was paying like 54.00 plus long distance.

I got Vonage at my office and the network guy said it f*cked up the internet for the entire building. He said that bandwidth needs to be allowcated for each person using VOIP.

I use vonage at home and in our offices I highly reccommend it.

Here is my referral code if you want to sign up under me!
                    http://www.vonage.com/?refer_id=tanker

I love my vonage I have had it for like 3 years now

the best part is if you take the little router with you while travelling you can use your vonage phone on any broadband connection and your phone will still ring to you even if you are in China at the time

I have 3 numbers attached to it one in Arizona, seattle, and Toronto

                    it rocks!

Yeah im not using Vonage.. I found another carrier I liked more. Had more options.. But was the same concept..

Vonage just has the marketing out there that everyone seems to recognize.

                          Bone,

We have used packet8.net for 2 years or so now. They are #2 right now behind vonage.

$20.00 per month gets you unlimited USA / Canada calling 24/7 Also, For our overseas ppl, I just send them the adapter and they have a local Gresham #

When I travel in europe I bring 1 adapter with me, plug it into any network and then I can just call like I was in Portland, or the wife can call me locally. works perfect.

Also, you can transfer your current #'s to them. Are you with Verizon??

Verizon Fios (fiber) is ready to roll soon in beaverton area I think. 15 meg down, 2 meg up, $49.00 per month

Yep, it's the bomb. We don't make many LD calls either, but since it's free now the little woman has been talking to her mommy a lot.

Nothing needs to be allocated. just use a router i.e. linksys or d-link and your fine.

They all use QOS, so it shares- prioritizes, does it packet thingy.

I like vonage as long as you have other lines available. Mine is fucked up slightly once in a while. If my webmaster in the office is uploading stuff to the web site it kills the vonage completely, my wireless router does not have any special QoS settings or anything so a 5 gig uploaded file maxes out the cable modem and makes the vonage sound like shit.

My security guy is trying to talk me out if it..

Says if my phone goes down it trigers my alarm since i have the phone cut option on my home security.. He says this broadband phone stuff goes down a lot and is a headache for the security monitoring services.

Also he gave me some warning the county sent out about 911 and saftey. How there is some saftey and liability issues with using VOIP in the case of an emergency and inability to access emergency 911 access.

                                              Shit im so confused

I use Vonage and couldn't be happier. Once in a while the call quality is not quite as good but then I rarely use my phone for anything. 500 minutes a month with taxes costs me right around $17.00. Can't beat that. Unlimited minutes is $24.99 plus taxes. Find someone who has Vonage that you know and have them give you their referral code and you will get a free month as will they.

Vonage has worked out 911 in the US. For your security system get a basic phone line from the local phone company for $10-15 or whatever they charge and just use it for emergencies if VOIP is down and your security system. You should still save money. Oh, and if you have DSL you could still keep it with that basic line or switch to a cable internet access.

I have no phone service (other than vonage).. I could use one of our cell phones for this.. There is no reason to have a home phone, and no more solicitors.. ;)

If your broadband connection is down your phone will be down. Sometimes my Comcast cable is out but I still have Comcast internet access so my phone still works. My broadband connection has not been down here, at least while I needed to use it and was aware it was down. I believe you can also set your calls to route to your cell phone if your broadband is down for some reason.

Got a ton of features and unlimited calling in the US and Canada. International rates are dirt cheap also compared to traditional land line phone rates.

So far I love Vonage and it sounds just as clear as my old land line. I wish I had switched over to VoIP sooner. The amount of money you can save is fantastic.

If you need emergency assistance and your home phone goes out you can always use your cell phones.

We are getting it installed tomorrow through road runner on there business plan, I think it's around $30/month for all the toys since we also have the biz connection here at home.
