How do you block a webpage?

I was messing with hosts.sam or host file on my pc.

    I know there was a way to redirect www.somesite.com to http://www.anothersite.com using IP's ??

Linksys has an option on my router to block a url.. doesn't seem to work perhaps it's talking about something else?
