    NHL hockey in Phoenix

Jeremy Roenick is wondering why hockey isn't being shown on television in Phoenix. It's a good question actually.

If the interest in pro hockey is at such low levels in Phoenix, they should pack up the team and move it where people will appreciate the game.

Winnipeg is dying to get their NHL franchise back. Quebec City would be another option.

Winning equals exposure, plain and simple. Maybe if the front office would learn how to build a team they would get some air play.

he's right - you can't expect to go into cities like Phoenix and Miami where hockey is essentially a novelty sport and gain any ground if you don't win - people forget that even the city in the USA they call HockeyTown - Detroit - in the 80's when they were dreadful played to less than 10,000 fans - even Canadian cities don't back perennial losers.

but i agree - now that the league has a salary cap - it's time to go back to Winnipeg and it would be no loss for the NHL if that franchise was Phoenix.
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

And adding Roenik is not a way to build a team.. He is great for PR and but is nothing on the ice anymore.. He really should hang up the skates and get a nice office job with a team. He WAS a great player and he IS a great PR man for any team.

Well, I say use it or lose it.

If the team can't survive in Phoenix, let them bring it back to Winnipeg or Quebec City.
Hell, even Hamilton, Ontario could support an NHL franchise better than most US cities that have a team.

I am a Coyotes fan. MY good friend is a season ticket holder and we support the team. I would be bummed if we lost the team, but it is true that there is hardly any support for them. We just went to a Mike Ricci and Derek Morris signing and it was pretty week. I bet there were maybe 100 people there. TOPS.

Being considered a novelty sport when it's a professional sport is kind of rough.

They need to learn how to build a team from within and stop signing all these older players like Amonte, Hull and others like they have in the past. They traded away some good young players in recent years too like Tanabe, Johnson and Brierre just to name a few. I can't really complain about the Brierre thing though because my Sabres got him.

It just doesn't seem like they're patient enough with either the young guys or the veterans. I mean they brought Amonte in a couple years back and then traded him away that same year after he struggled. It will definitely be interesting to see how both Nolan and Jovanowski do this year too especially Nolan being his first year back since before the strike.

I always root for them being a Phoenix resident and I've been to some games but I'm not a huge fan because I grew up back in the Buffalo area so I've always been and always will be a Sabres fan. It would be a shame to see them go though.

I totally agree, if the market/interest isnt there, move the team.
I would like to see Winnipeg get a team back. Sure gretzky is an owner/coach and Roenick does draw interest but jesus the coyotes suck.
