Shouldn't be too hard, you'll just have to be brutal with only fading up the audio at the exact moment there's a sound you want included. I see "in the club" type TV shows do it all the time as they don't want to have to pay royalties for the background music. If you superimpose your own licensed music over the edited track then it will probably make it less obvious.
