What i mean is by plugin is a link that you put in a members area which gives extra content to help retain members, while selling them something which makes you money via another site promoting somebodys products.Comment

I think you mean an 'upsell' right? A plugin doesn't sell them anything, it just provides extra content (it costs the webmaster money to have the plugin placed on the site). An Upsell can provide content but it is there to get current members to buy more things (and it's free for the webmaster).
