Ralphie was a strong character in the series. What sucks is that they kill some of the best ones and it seems like the world is gonna cave in on Tony ( with Paulie, junky Christopher, Furio trying to bang his wife, that hahahaha sister ).
The way its going they might as well end the series at the end of the season unless they introduce new characters and stop showing men cry every fuckin week.I can program better than youComment

I would say that's because the world IS going to cave in on Tony. That's the idea.
Expect the Russian that Paulie and Chris couldn't catch to return for vengeance.
Expect the FBI to get something on Tony.
Expect Furio to try to kill Tony, or Tony to catch them in bed.
Expect a war with Carmines family.
Expect Paulie to turn - Hell, even Silvio was looking disloyal a couple eps ago.
Gotta have lots of ways this shit can go down if they're going to end with the bang that I think they are. They're foreshadowing plenty of possible endings.

I doubt they'll bring back that Russian angle...but may of those other things could easily be true. The overall theme of this season shows how the family's problems aren't from outside influences, but they are collapsing from the inside. Even Tony himself doesn't have a hold of things. The values he tries to uphold he's overlooking himself. He knows you're not supposed to touch a made man (Ralphie) and tells Paulie not to, but then kills him himself. He spanks his assemblyman friend for fucking his old girlfriend, then does the same thing to Ralph next episode.Originally posted by Backov

Good points all. That's really what is happenning, the organization is collapsing.
But, I would lay odds that the Russian will return. It was just too juicy, and if that guy lived at all (and he did, since he stole Paulies Caddy) - he'll definitely come back for vengeance. Remember he was some legendary KGB hardass. It'll be ugly.
They're just letting most of the casual viewers forget who he is. Dramatic pacing is a good thing.
