If you ever get the chance, read - The Cosmic Loom by Dennis Elwell.

Although the book is probably more aimed at serious astrologists, it raises some very thought provoking questions regarding humanities perception of events for "good" or "evil" and IMHO would be a very good reading experience for a serious student of sociology.
