yes and no i never wore colors but we definitely had symbols or teams that we wore when i was living in LA. other than that i guess it could have been like a gang when i was alot younger, a group of us that skated together, got in group fights and always ran together doing crazy shit.

In the early up to mid late 80's I was in the Guardian Angels Boston chapter, not really a gang per se, but an anti gang/anti crime community patrol. This was when I was at the peak of my martial arts training. It was a real eye opener for me & opened alot of doors for me & gave me several opportunites to utilize skills I could really only use in full contact tournaments. It was pretty tough out there some nights.. It was still pretty early in the groups movement & there was alot of negative sentiment sometimes, but things changed since then.. I recall one night on a community street patrol, we were outnumbered by a gang of armed thugs & ended up roof skipping across Columbia Point Projects to get the fuck out of there,,

I got involved in gangs at a young age when I lived near Stockton, CA living in a mexican neighborhood it was all I could do to fit in and get by..

Luckily I got out when I moved away to the bay area.... I've been shot at, stabbed, and have done alot of things I never want to do to anyone again...

I ran with the Sur 13, Sureno/Sur means South, a Southern California formed gang that rivals Norte/Nortenos, (North) Sur 13 is still a major mexican gang all over the US now, we have peewees here in Oregon even who have family that moved this way to work on farms and who came to traffic meth and coke up here. You'd prolly see the graffiti SUR, X3, 13.. They are very affiliated with Brown Pride and La Eme (The Mexican Mafia) Not to be confused with MS13, Mara Salvatrucha, which is a gang from El Salvador
                    I'm here for the violence!

Folks still live in mill basin, Shame was happened to canarsie, in your time of growing up it was a great place for the working class, a lot of 'neighborhood' guys, basically a slum now. An extension of East New York. My little league coach used to own " Laundry King " on ave L, 80 something street. The good old says...man do things change ;)

Yeah, Canarsie was heading in that direction when i left. You could see it happening before your eyes. Growing up - the Bayview projects was pretty racially diverse but towards the end it seemed like the crime was just so rampant that there was a mass exodus.

The neighborhood itself is shot to shit. I used to drive through whenever I went back and NOW I don't recognize the place anymore.

My mother is in Sheepshead Bay and grandparents are in Queens, Cousins are in long island and Jersey ... friends scattered all over the 5 boroughs.

I do miss a lot of people but don't miss alot about the place
