I'm one of those photographers who is more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it. The only photos I usually ever have taken with me in them are posing with some of the models I work with.
I don't go to many web industry shows, because I am neither a Sponsor or Affiliate (I operate my own independent sites), and I already know most of the vendors since I have been in the business nearly seven years. I hit InterNext in Vegas, and I'll probably go to the Phoenix Forum and Xbiz next year.
I do go to adult video industry shows, such as AVN and Erotica LA, since I shoot movies. Aside from that, I have booths at cars shows (Hot Import Nights, etc), model expos (Glamourcon, etc), and other events like the Exotic Erotic Ball (that would be a good one for you to network at).
I'm sure we'll have an opportunity to meet at some point...I'll buy you lunch (sushi or something, just no penis sandwiches for godsakes).

P.S. You can still bring your strap-on - I bring models with me to most events, and I like to watch (hehe)...
