    does having subdomains like http://blah.subdomain.domain.com hurt you or is it okay?

              It can get good placements, but surfers don't like seeing stuff that matches their results too well.

              IE. I search for "adult entertainment website".

              Surfers dislike adult.domain.com/adult-entertainment-website.html

                          use only single level subdomains ... keyword naming the directories and files AFTER the .com will give you much better weight.

                          Keep in mind that SEs do not see domain.com and sub.domain.com as the same domain, but rather as two completely different domains.
