Radical dreams, as in... your parents or loved ones dying, or very brutal nightmares that happen on a consistent basis usually stem from a life changing event, or a serious change in your mental attitude / approach.
Dated a woman for a long long time, when we broke up I had a series of horrid dreams like what you were saying, and that was why. Made sense I guess, as I got over her they went away.
Obviously doesn't have to be because of a relationship, just a major shift in routine and mental status.

I woke up from having a dream I was hanging out with linsey lohan on some small prop plane. The pilot was taking us to some festival, and when he landed he did so like a helicopter.
Me and Linsey were talking in the back, and she was laying across my lap for part of the trip, telling me about how she got into Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.

Speaking of ... I just woke up this a.m. after dreaming I ran into my ex-gf - actually the guy she is dating (it's all a dream, I don't even know if she has a bf now..) and we started talking. Then she comes along and next thing you know the guy challenges me to a thumb-wrestling contest (!)
Anyhow, I suggest we have a real fight, I flatten him (in the dream he's a weak-looking, scrawny dude) and next thing you know she's calling the police?!?!?
