Spam is shit man - OK, some may earn out of it, but there are better ways of earning than pissing everyone off.
Double opt-in is fine along the lines described by godisdead above.
The fact that you also operate/live in the EU is also a plus - they are not stupid neurotic over sending email and not a problem if this is an optin list.
RK Netmedia.. well.. what you expect?
Any reasonable use of email is fine, mass spamming is not.
