Apr 22 - Newly released government documents reveal that US military personnel arrested and detained Iraqi civilians in an attempt to pressure relatives suspected of involvement in the insurgency to turn themselves in. Other documents released Monday by the Department of Defense in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request suggest that senior Army commanders encouraged interrogators to torture Iraqi detainees who had not yet been "broken" during questioning.

"These documents provide further evidence that the chain of command in Iraq approved and even encouraged the abuse of detainees held in US custody," said attorney Amrit Singh in a statement from the American Civil Liberties Union announcing the release of the documents.

Look I hate Bush probally more than you or anyone else, but WTF is the point in arguing over this crap? He won, our country has at least 60 million idiots in it, we are already over there so we might as well finish the job. Only thing to do is wait until Jan 20th 2009 so we can finally be free of this idiot.

it's well known that the general population of iraq has hated the americans for a long time. not because we "invaded" their country, but because we didn't show up soon enough. they've wanted us there for a long time. this is well documented and isn't propoganda BS by the US gov. hell bill mahar even had a very liberal american/middle eastern on his show who wrote a book on the iraqi women who quoted what i stated about them being resentful it took us such a long time to get the job done and stop an atrocity (saddam). so you can post all the bs news articles from 3rd rate websites / news organizations that you want, but as time progresses it's evident your stance is getting weaker and weaker.

So when is it OUR job to free people? We freed ourselves from England. Yes we had help from France and Spain( notice that's HELP not they they did all the work for us ) and they didn't help us until we after we were trying to free ourselves. What fucking effort did the Iraqi people make? And don't give me crap about "Well Saddam would have killed them" Well that's the price of freedom. If you are not willing to pay the price don't complain about being ruled by a tyrant.

unfortunately in any war, whether the cause be good or bad, there will be a need for information and torture is a route taken. i don't agree with it but who am I to say what method is effective and what isn't. it's all about the circumstance, if my girlfriend were kidnapped and stored away somewhere with limited time to live and i found the kidnapper, i'd torture him to obtain the information. i'm sure circumstances are different, but in a war that drags out longer and longer (which means us casualties) - taking any means necessary to obtain the information we need from those who we know are the enemies which wish to kill us, doesn't seem like such a horrible act.

there was probably incentive for us to go there. plain n' simple. you can't expect any country who is going to take on such a massive effort (which would cost billions upon billions) to do it out of courtesy. what the incentive is, i don't know... oil? land control? whatever it is, it is the byproduct of helping to modernize a very barbaric portion of the world in the form that at least somewhat resembles a democracy.
