Playboy to Offer Content for Sony?s PSP - please note my comments inside!

Playboy Enterprises announced plans Wednesday to offer content specifically formatted for viewing on Sony's Portable PlayStation. Full Story

The interesting thing however... Some time ago I have suggested making some adult games for GBA (Game Boy Advance for the ones who don?t know). I'm a professional system programmer and I know well the GBA architecture so I can do VERY exciting games for it. However, when I suggested this at XBiz, the ppl. There told me "NO-NO!" The GBA is PRIMARY intended for kids, so Nintendo will never allow me to issue such a game... So Here is a question: isn't PSP also PRIMARY intended for kids?

Yeah. Because Leisure Suit Larry and Grand Theft Auto are games designed for kids.

If people think that games and consoles are designed only for kids these days, they have their heads somewhere else.

The majority of movies on dvd and vhs are not adult movies. Does it mean that adult movies don't sell?

It's all about hitting the right niche. There is a certain niche where people will say "I'll play a smutty video game". And I'm sure that there are enough of them out there to turn a profit.

Actually I won't run into inything until I'll be sure it's completele legal thing. As about the tech. possibility, so I can make really good games for GBA, but... I don't want any troubles with Nintent. Is there is any BIG BOY who feel he could settle the legal side, I'll be happy to do some parthership biz with him. I'll make the games, we'll sell them FOR ADULTS and share the earnings. At least why the Adult Games are ok with mobile phones, and why they are ok with PSP??? At least GBA must more powerful for game gevelopment than ANY mobile prone...

Sure. But what about PSP? In't it mostly for kids as well? BTW, the comics are also intended for kids, but every adult-shop has a bunch of it for ADULTS.

New Sensations and Digital Sin has already started the process about 3 months ago - Were stockpiling the content now to offer adult stores loaded DUO's. As it stands right now, you can stick any images and MP4 video on a PSP - Just drag and drop on your DOU card simple as that. So on that note I think Playboy was just looking to get a cheap press release lol

The Sony Playstation 2 was primarily marked towards 18 - 30 year olds (with a focus on sports games) with the majority of ad placement in lad's mags (Maxim, FHM, Stuff)so I'm assuming that the PSP is as well.

Not everything. I figured out only the tech side: I can make very good games for GBA (actually I knew that before to post this topic), but I haven't figured out the legal side of this. I.e. am I allowed to do this? Or why PSP and GBA so different in legal sense? That's why I posted this thread.

I think Nintendo has to license all their software developers. Plus I think they use cartridges again for the DS. I don't think there is any money to be made trying to produce porn for any Nintendo system.

The PSP might be a different story.

The device has access to the internet... therefore, it will have porn.

Same with mobile phones. All this talk about regulation is bs... The only way to prevent it is to prevent access to ALL sites outside the immediate control of the manufacturer, and manufacturers, liking money, aren't very keen on doing that in the long term.

Sony wants to dominate the mobile market with their PSP... they aren't going to shut it down because someone realized that web browsers can be pointed at porn sites *gasp!*

The DS has been out longer than the PSP, and from what I understand there is still no way to even surf the web on a DS. While the PSP has already been hacked and you can surf porn and do many other things on it. Nintendo is keen on preventing this sort of thing, while Sony appears to be embracing it.

In the past Nintendo has even threatened to sue porn websites that simply mention their name. (such as the Suicide Girls case). There is no way they will allow porn on their system.

Nintendo has always considered its systems as being for kids. That's why when everyone else was designing CD systems, Nintendo stuck with their cartridges for N64.. Any games that get released for systems like Nintendo and Playstation, have to be APPROVED by those companies... And you have to pay them a license fee per unit. I doubt there's chance in hell you could get adult content out on a Nintendo system. I doubt Sony would be into having hardcore adult content for their system either.
