What use is the EU without a constitution?Originally posted by BRISKThe EU wouldn't go down in flames if the constitution is rejected
Exagerate much?
Hint: without the constitution, the EU per se does not exist as an organized nation. Its status is roughly the same as Canada, the US, and Mexico under NAFTA.

It will not collapse. And it's already a totally different "thing" then the NAFTA. Where you're from? If you are from Europe, you must be very stupid to give this kinda comments. When you are not, it's ok. You proberly know Europe from books, and Society news.Questions?

It's obvious that you don't approach the analysis of a subject from an objective point of view, and you've displayed a lack of even basic critical thinking skills. Then when someone disagrees with you, you're quick to attempt to discredit them by claiming they're stupid.

I have yet to see you post an objective analysis of the situation.
So far, you have ignorantly stated that "the EU wouldn't go down in flames if the constitution is rejected" and then you proceeded to cry about being called dumb.Comment

i live in europe and i don't want the constitution. close trading links between european states is great as the common market (EEC) was setup for. but i don't want political union with other countries or law making etc in brussels, just close friendly links and free trade within europe.Comment

The problem with the EU is that the countries of Europe never agreed on anything to begin with. It's a fundamentally flawed concept.Originally posted by rolyi live in europe and i don't want the constitution. close trading links between european states is great as the common market (EEC) was setup for. but i don't want political union with other countries or law making etc in brussels, just close friendly links and free trade within europe.Comment

The EU has been an evolving concept from it's earliest beginnings over 50 years ago. It has been through the debate and negotiation of many treaties in its history, if one or more countries were to reject the currently proposed constitution, they wouldn't just all get up from the table and walk away from the idea of the EU. If any country were to reject the constitution, it certainly wouldn't help to move the EU forward, but at the same time, it wouldn't be the end. It's not a black or white situation. Rejecting the constitution now could simply be a hurdle in the path towards eventually agreeing to it, or a future revised version of it.
Rome wasn't built in a day, and the US Constitution wasn't exactly a walk in the park either.I post on GFY so that when people ask me what I do,

it is a trade union, ask anyone in Europe if they want Europe to be one nation and you will get no as an answer in 99,9% of the cases.
There are too many cultural differences and language barriers for that ever to be even a slight possibilityComment

An 'organized nation'? What a twat. The EU never has (yet) been one despite most Americans thinking otherwise. But then your posts tend to repeatedly prove the point that your intelligence is too low to troll well.Originally posted by Evil JawaWhat use is the EU without a constitution?

i dont think most Americans think very much about the EU at all. there is not much evidence to support the notion that Americans think about much of anything outside US borders.Comment

If any of the member states votes against the constitution, it doesn't mean there won't be a constitution, it just mean the current draft (and that is what is being voted on, a draft) will have to go back to be rewritten.
There is a very worrying paragraph which states that anything in the constitution now cannot me modified. This is very worrying for the socialistic lifestyle of the French who protect their workforce like no other. The constitution as it stands is very AngloSaxon and supports free exchange of labour force, which basically means certain trades, like the building trade in developed Euro countries will be flooded with cheap labour from the ex Soviet Bloc countries.
Basically, Europe is evolving and has been doing for some time. The comment about the fatal flaw being that European countries cannot agree on anything is bullshit. A NO vote now against the constitution will probably mean the final constitution will be even stronger. True, it won't help France's strong stance in Europe, but as it's the people that decide, then that can only be a good thing for the benefit of all involved.

I hope it gets turned down since the control will be much more centralised. You can not have centralised control for as big region as Europe. All countries are so different and what might work in Sweden or Netherlands, will not work in Estonia or some other of the new EU countries.Comment
