Why do people not support Melissa Midwest?
It kind of boggles my mind when I see thread after thread of people complaining about our government and the liberties they take with individuals in the adult industry. Whether it's unconstitutional laws or bogus arrests, the board is a buzz with these threads and they seem to play a large part in this industry.
It is with that that I can't fathom why people not only blow off her recent legal battles but blame her for them. In an industry that cries foul all the time, should we not be supporting those that are willing to battle those injustices? I understand what some mean by "she's asking for trouble", but is hiding in the shadows really going to allow this industry to expand and gain acceptance?
Fighting these thing is the only way this industry survives injustices like this. This doesn't just go for Melissa Midwest, but Ray Guhn, Chris Wilson, and all the others that are charged for crimes simply because they don't meet the same moral code set forth by their local government. Letting these people know they can't push people around is the first step in gaining acceptance and clearing the perception that we are all evil.
For those not aware, Melissa Midwest is not only fighting her case by appealing a very small crime, but also filing a lawsuit against the local powers. She is turning the tables on them and letting them know that they can't get away with this kind of stuff. This is what this industry should be doing, not running and hiding. I just think condemming her for such actions is completely wrong. Finally someone has the resources and guts to stand up to the government and we sit here and call her an idiot.
So why do we not support her in this? Is it because she is a girl? Is it because she isn't part of a GFY clique? Or is it because we've become so afraid of our government that we can't fathom standing up to it?
Whatever the case may be, I think it's wrong. She along with others in legal battles should be getting full support. If your government wins these battles without a fight, they will continue to target this industry and these arrests will become more common.
