There's been a lot of complaining over TR's direct mailers, biggest prob seems to be webmaster's are afraid of others 'finding out what they do'.

I liked the mailer, I'm surprised I don't get more. Of course, after all the awesome publicity Teen Revenue got from this, something tells me I will start to see more ads in my mailbox

Remember when all the brouhaha came about because of sound being put into the flash banners?
Sure it got a few companies I guess some much needed publicity..but think about the long term effects it had on all flash banners after that after a lot of people disabled flash.

Like I said I could care less about getting mailers..I've recieved them before I'm sure I'll see more.
I just hate this industry's fascination with press at any cost that was expressed in yo adrians statement.
Why gain some while alienating others...try to find a marketing strategy that gets you the most.
I think the companies that cater to the lowest common denominator in whatever marketing tactic they use get exactly that in return.

there should be exceptions or opt-out or opt-in because there are plenty of part-time webmasters who cannot afford to clue in their housemates as to what they do.

we have a housewife in galveston, texas that waits til the kids are at school and her hubby is at work and then she kills google. her family has no clue that she is getting number 1 for perverse keywords and i cannot blame her for wanting to keep it a secret...

there are plenty of examples both postive and negative of course.... there is no denying that there is risk involved and the same housewife could go get a p.o. box etc.. but, what can you do...
