Seems to be alot of DJs and Rappers now in the biz.....

We need to have some competitions. A little competition never killed anyone.

It would have to be something that is actually a competition and not a popularity contest.

    Based on:

    1) Overall Skills
    2) Technical Merit
    3) Creativity
    4) Execution

I'm going to the drawing board. I got an idea. STAY TUNED.

Here are the ones i know off the top of my head.

    ytcracker
    jace xxx
    nader
    jester
    evan

Theres at least 10 more that i saw posting that they were DJs and rappers throughout the last year at least.

List your skills and links to your materials here if you got em.

I was a house/trance Dj for over 10 years. I started off at rave party afterhours in Chicago in 94... then I did some house/frat parties in college and a monthly residence at a small club in Chicago. I gave it up when I realized that nobody cares wht the DJ spins anymore... its not like back in the rave days where you could bring the crowd to its knees with a bomb track. Living in AZ doesn't help either. Guess I just have a negative attitude about spinning.

basically ignorance is my weapon as a dj. you can do the smallest easiest things and get cheers and people go wild. half the people i give my cds too dont even know which song is which.

as long as they like it

i've seen his stuff. he is a big room club dj. nader is a cool cat.

i'm talking about turntablism and possibly producing some segments for judging.

i convinced that any monkey can learn how to beatmatch and switch over records, but it takes creativity and lots of experience to really fuck it up and mash a crowd.

this is in no way reflective of nader or myself, i am a big room club dj too.

i am planning some stuff to keep this all from getting boring for all of us that are into turntables.

Lets face it guys... being a DJ isn't as cool now that they have CD mixers in almost every club.

I've been playing pubs and clubs spinning hiphop and funk for the last 3 years. Its a little different in underground hiphop scenes, because EVERYONE knows what track you're dropping.....and it better be fucking dope or you lose the crowd quickly.

I am down for it. I am actually about to release my first full length turntablism cd....but god damn it is hard to fill up 60 minutes of it...i have over 100 records so far for the cd. One of my buddies who is Usher's producer is going to be working with me on it

I think we should do a contest...and I think each participant should submit a video, unedited, for their entry...this could be fun

yeah, i personally use at least 90% vinyl...but my own produced tracks I have to play on cd, cause I don't feel like plopping down $200 a pop to get a dub made

well, i was being respectful. whoever has the love for the decks is ok in my book. wanna be or not. before i was a dj that actually got work every week at good venues and for big name spots, i guess i was a wannabe too, so i may be meeting the next big person. wouldn't make sense for me to be rude to anyone who might work with me someday.

advice for wannabe's - keep your day job.

                                            1990 -- started playing
1991 -- started playing professionally in S.f. and Berkeley party and rave scene
1991 and a half -- worked and partied all night, slept all day and missed all of my classes at berkeley. fell into a fast crowd.
1991 and a half through about 1995 -- played less frequently but at bigger venues and events
1995 -- became a purist and vowed to never accept payment for my musical services again
Yesterday -- turned down an invite to play a 2 hr set at a movie release party for Snoop at the Tribeca Film Festival even though I am already headed to nyc that same weekend.

dj'ng and playing all instruments for that matter for the average person is a great hobby and outlet that can get corrupted if you cross a certain line which is different for everybody. the release and freedom of expression are the benefits of being a purist imho & ego's do not fit in to the mix.

For every lantern and hookid there are a lot of washed failures who's lives are spent living a fantasy that turns into a nightmare with self-realization.

we are all wanna-be's in some form or fashion

For every lantern and hookid there are a lot of washed failures who's lives are spent living a fantasy that turns into a nightmare with self-realization.
very well said man...egos will get you no where FAST......

DJing is my career, adult is just a money maker while I wait for that to happen...I plan on being a dj until I loose function of my arms and I can't use turntables anymore..djing is my passion more than anything ever has been in my life

Played alot of small time gigs with bill and julian perez in the late 80's at old abandoned train stations and VFW's. Times have changed dramatically, im an old school house guy through and through and would never make it today. I hate the new club music. He will be back to vision on the 30th this month, will be a good time for sure.
