    wtf is google doing?

    I still have my same main listings but traffic is down. my google.com traffic is down by 1/3rd today.. .de traffic is down by 2/3rds same with .ca and .co.uk as well as the rest of the million and a half google search domains.

    What gives anyone know? My serp listings are still the same for all my main keywords but traffic is way down..

              Do you use WebPosition Gold to monitor your rankings on a weekly basis?

              This is the first thing I'd do to get a better handle of data. You'd be able to see if there has been a major fluctuation in positioning.

              You may have been penalized as well.

              I would need more information from to make a determination as to what's going on.

                  My position in the serps are still the same. Traffic is just down for the keywords which doesn't make a lot of sense.

                  On the yahoo thing.. for the same keywords my stats are almost the same.. that is this is a drop from just yesterday not over a period of time. So I wouldn't think that many people just up and decided to switch to Yahoo today.

                                                  2 reasons I can think of.
                                                  1)Google has many datacenters and you are seeing the datacenters where you still have the same postion in their serps But alas on a third of them you are not there.This is not good as it more than likely means you are on your way out.
                                                  2)Although you still retain the positions you normally check, you might find you no longer show up for minor search strings that you once did.These minor search strings usually make up the bulk of traffic.

                                                      yea I'm thinking it maybe some of the smaller search terms.. But I'll give it a day or two to see. I know the name isn't on the way out because I just picked up a few new keywords that are doing ok.

                                                      I don't think it's the data center anymore because on several of my main keywords I now have a second page showing in the serps under the main page. (second page covers some of the same keywords)

                                                      The site is not spammy at all no black hat stuff, it's 100% legit... site has been online since 2001 with good positions, so I've never had to do any shady stuff to keep it listed well.

                                                      So the only thing I can think of is I lost a lot of smaller search terms but kept my bigger ones.

                                                          Also make sure your site hasn't been down.
                                                          Unfortunately even having a clean site doesn't prevent google fucking with it.
                                                          If it is some minor kw strings then try to get some links into those inner pages.

                                                              yea I was just thinking that too and checking my scripts.. but site was up.. so I dunno whats it up. I guess I'll give it a day or too and see if it comes back.
