Search engine idea
Everyone knows backlinks are important. Now, recip links don't do as well as "free" incoming links, since the search engines also realize that linktrades are just that - linktrades.
I know people are also exchanging links asynchronously, linking to somebody else's site with site A, who links back to site B, and stuff like that. Still, as long as you do this with only a few people, it keeps the entire network of links pretty close together.
What about setting up an linktrade program where people sign up their sites and link to a number of randomly selected (but relevant) sites in the database, while a number of completely different sites, with different owners, link "back"?
It would require some trust on the part of all participants (as well as software that automatically checks everyone keeps their end of the bargain), but I think it could work out pretty well.
Any ideas?
