You could either register them in 1996, buy them very cheap in 1997, buy them cheap in 1998-2000, or you have pay top dollar for them now
When someone is new to the industry, unless his comes with some money from other businesses, then he is not able to get them.
Or you can start making money with free sites, galleries etc and then the money you earned spend on domains, instead of cars, but there is definitely not the easy way anymore.I don't use ICQ anymore.Comment

Invested 4k in domains three months ago (most were free names, unregistered.. couple from resellers), today they make 2.5k/month.
This is going to last for a long time too and some really good gems registered that in the after-market they can likely to bring a six figure return as well.
so overall, I put few days working to find them, a little money to invest.. and created a new cash cow.Comment

So I am only 1 1/2 years new to the biz and have made quiet a few friends along the way. All seem to have a similiar *fucked over* storie....

So it seems the best way to make money in this biz is to start a good program with a partner.....once started, piss the partner off at an early stage so he leaves...then, hire a really talented, motivated leader and *promise to take care of them* on a hand shake if they take the company to the top.....once it gets to the top you become really weird and never come into the office....then one day out of the blue you fire everyone and pocket the proceeds.......easy hunh.SIG TOO BIG! The Bad news, is that the ones making the big bucks, require reasearch, knowledge and lots of work at least until you figure out a ways to automate your thing.

I once bought a domain name for $800. I didn't really do anything with it for over a year. When I did start sending the traffic to the (perfect) sponsor, it earned an average of almost $100 a day for the first year. It slowed down some after that, but that felt like easy money.
I guess the "hard" part was researching, reading, looking for the domains and negotiating for them. I did spend a lot of time searching.Comment
