Some Cancers, if detected early enough, can be wiped out but Lung Cancer - once you get it, you're dead. That's a hard pill to swallow.
My mother had Breast Cancer. She lived about 4 years after diagnosis. At one point, the cancerous region was the size of a baseball. After a year after that it was down to the size of a pea. God rest her soul, she told us the Cancer was in recess when in fact it was growing again after that and the doctor told her there was nothing else they could do. She had a stroke a few weeks later.
Unfortunatly at the time I was young and didn't quite grasp the concept of death - like, really grasp it and realize that it could and would happen to my mother.
