I think it can be a mistake trying to be a friend to your kids as opposed to a parent. She is only 8, maybe the friendship ploy should come around when she is older. Just my 2 cents, but each family has their own dynamics that work for them. When I was 1-15 I needed a Mother, not a friend... Now that I'm in my mid 30's, I want a friend because I obviously can take care of myself.

It's strange the way each family works. I was a horror when I was 16, sneaking out, skipping school, ect. After I was told if I kept my GPA up and didn't miss school and could do whatver I damn well pleased (as far as coming and going, spending the night out) My grades shot up, I never missed school and my behavior did a 180..... no fun breaking rules if there aren't any. lol
