Are People in the USA Really This Stupid?

In threads I have read here relating to drugs or gambling or [insert random vice here], it seems that the prevailing answer to everything is "legalize it, tax it". Dont get me wrong, its nice that you are all so open to legalization. Thats a good thing. Its the tax it part I dont get. Why tax it? Dosent the government have enough revenue streams yet?

Here is a list of the current taxes we have:

Federal Unemployment Tax
Workers Compensation Tax
Social Security Tax
Medicare Tax
State Income Tax
State Unemployment Tax
School Ta
Sales Taxes (State and Local)
Real Estate Tax

The more money the government has, the more things it tries to do to/for/with it's citizens. And the more its tenticals seep into our daily lives. Dosent it seem that the best way to reduce government is also the same way you reduce the power of a corportation: bleed it dry of money. As companies run out of capital, they downsize to try and survive. We have been supersizing our government for the last 100 or so years in the worst way. Its long past time for the government to feel the pain of a bad economy, where we dont buy as much (remit as much in taxes) and shop the competition.
