Obviously he doesn't know it yet--and a birth defect of this type wouldn't be "a little different" if it was your kid and his quality of life. Any other insights, buddha-master? Condescend to someone else.
I'm serious when I say I hope that doctors can do something for him before he gets older and starts to feel like a freak--which is a conclusion HE will come to BY HIMSELF regardless of how he is treated by other folks--even really nice non-judgmental folks like yourself. I've worked with kids that are "a little different" and sugar-coating reality doesn't help much because they'll grow up in the same cruel world just like everyone else. Surgery now in this case might avoid a lot of guaranteed suffering and possibly even a suicide when he reaches adulthood.
