Geo targetting is surely a step in the right direction. The limitation is that although surfers can read the banners, they are still only being offered tours and sites that are (usually badly) designed primarily for US surfers.

It's not just the presentation and style which are still basically one-size-fits-all. I read/heard somewhere once that for example, German surfers prefer live teens, French surfers are big on ebony sites, etc. I have no idea if those particular claims are true, but after several years experimenting, I finally figured out what I could sell to Japanese surfers and the sites are entirely different from those I normally make money with.

Since the days of dialers, the operators have been in a position to extrapolate quite a lot of information from their data. I'm surprised they don't do a lot more to capitalize on national differences.
