$60 is pretty cheap, but 12-15kbps is slow as fuck

I got one and it was horrible. I had to take it back. I spent 2-3 hours with tech support and they were not a help. The software that was packaged with the card was not up to date. To get online you had to have a broadband connection so that you can update all the software before trying to use the card. Maybe its just my area or maybe bad luck but I was not able to get online with the dang thing.

That's was in the middle of nowhere, where DSL isn't even available. dial-up ran at 2kbps max there.

I got the sprint global wireless card for my laptop before I moved to puerto rico...The shit is nothing more than a glorified DIALUP connection...The best place to get a connection is at an airport and even though it SEEMS to be somewhat fast when you're browsing, don't even think about trying to upload large files cause it can't be done...

I'm paying over 90 a month for unlimited and I'm about to renegotiate this shit since I now have cable here...

Unless you have no other option, DO NOT even bother with sprint.

My place in MI is in a rural area, "no other option" there, but I also travel constantly, the card allows me to work on the road literally

They are pretty much a glorified dial-up, but it's 10x faster than what I had and beats driving into town everyday and wondering who is checking out my screen As for uploading large files, I'll upload 200MB+/- a day, which was impossible with the dial-up.

You get 15 days to return it with no charges, more than enough time to take it to your favorite spots and test it. If it doesn't work, take it back But I would only recommend it if you're on dial-up or traveling.

I think he's confusing kilobits and kilobytes.

The card uses EV-DO where available (in major urban areas) and CDMA everywhere else. EV-DO's average speed is around 400-700 kilobits per second downstream. It can top out at 2.4 mbps, but you'd have to be sitting on the tower to get those speeds. In terms of upload speeds, the fastest you'll see is about 90 kbps.

CDMA speeds are pretty similar to dial-up. Top speed is 56 kbps, but you won't see higher than 44 kbps, which is 5.5 KB/s. The upstream speed on CDMA isn't even worth talking about.

Yeah, he said kbps which means kilobits per second. But I think he's under the impression it means kilobytes per second, based on him saying his dial-up connection is 2 kbps which is 256 bytes per second. With a connection that slow, someone could fuck you up just by pinging you.

And 12-15 KB/s is pretty decent for most things. Obviously you're not watching streaming video or uploading movie galleries at that rate. But for checking stats, email, dealing with affiliates, etc, it's a decent speed. And disabling graphics helps even more.

12-15kbs upload? Way faster than Satellite. I get 2kbs upload.

My cell signal is terrible as well, so I'm stuck unless I move.

Do you ACTUALLY think that you will even stay connected long enough to upload 200MB? My movies are around 100MB and the estimated time to upload it to my server was FIVE HOURS...And of course it won't stay connected that long so you could have it running for three hours and then it craps out and you're back to square one..And I guarantee you, the only way that shit would work is if you were right next to the tower and it would take a good 10+ hours to upload that 200MB

You're gonna find out the hard way...Sprint is NOT an alternative to having internet access unless all you want to do is surf GFY and check email...anything else is useless.

Fuck those cards, just buy a EVDO phone and use it with the USB cable... does the same thing and no need to buy an extra device.

Its not meant to replace a broadband connection, its meant to let you check your mail, run AIM and do some low-level surfing or news reading on the go... or if you are in the dispatch/delivery business, connect you back to the office so you can get your dispatches and stuff.
