    Anyone noticing Google penalizing blogs?

It seems like Google traffic to blogs has pretty much totally vaporized. Even when the subject matter is much more relevant to the search than what is coming up, it seems like a blog will not be anywhere near the top of the search results.

Anybody notice this or have any thoughts on what is up with it?

Its not happened yet.,......... but theres quite a shuffle going on in google.

Some are predicting bad news for blogs.

Google gay porn - blog is number 1 at moment.

          Still #1 for "spanking".

But other page one results are dramatically different. Large SERP shuffle under way.

I get tons of Google hits to my adult and non-adult blogs. I haven't seen any of that traffic dropping off. And considering that Google owns blogger.com, I don't think Google is gonna penalize blogs, unless Google launches a search engine specifically for blogs and removes them from their main search engine.

Do you think they might penalize non-Blogger blogs to push their platform for blogging?

Maybe if you avoid the word "blog" and standard blog scripts you can avoid any blog suppression by the search engines?

SPAM blogs get penalized yes, because basically thats all you people are building is fucking SEO traps. GO back to your TGPs that is all.

Nah, I don't think they are going to do that. If they do, well, then there will be alot of pissed off bloggers talking about it, and lawyers will get involved, and well, you know how that story ends. ;)

I like the free hat Blogger gave me, but I don't keep stats on my Blogger-powered blogs, so I can't compare. Hoping someone here can.

Blogger does not make money from blogspot.com blogs AmeliaG why would they have undue preference for blogspot.com blogs?

Blogger.com and Blogspot.com are simply added value services for the Google brand.

My impression from everything I've heard and from people I know at google, is that they are pretty hung up on their ethical stance. Their whole "don't be evil" policy. I have no evidence of this, but I don't think the benefit from boosting their blog ratings would not outway the PR hit they would take. (unless they were up front about it, of course.)

Their whole "don't be evil" policy. I have no evidence of this, but I don't think the benefit from boosting their blog ratings would not outway the PR hit they would take. (unless they were up front about it, of course.)

Seriously, I like the don't be evil policy and that makes sense. I still wish they would come up with an algorhythm to knock out the spam blogs without penalizing the real ones with genuine content.

Cool. You can probably relate to where my head is at on this. I don't have a bunch of tricked out SEO-oriented blogs. I have stuff with real content and it is bothering me both as a site owner and as someone who searches on the engines that I feel legit blogs are taking a hit too in terms of overall Google traffic and ability to find what people are talking about. There are ways to search besides Google of course, but it is disappointing to me.

Google doesn't know what a blog is - it can pick out blogs that are hosted on sites like Blogger of course, but the algo/Googlebot can't differentiate between an actual blog or a page with a lot of updated content.
