Maybe the alternative would be direct employer training and holistic skills development? Saves money but also produces employees with a broad range of marketable skills.
"Education" is the most successful scam ever.

For an entrepreneur formal education isn't that useful, but for everyone else it's almost a requirement for a decent life.
I don't know anyone having a decent life that is not entrepreneurial and who hasn't completed college, do you?Custom Software Development, email: woj#at#wojfun#.#com to discuss details or skype: wojl2000 or gchat: wojfun or telegram: wojl2000

How psuedo Fight Club.Originally posted by CylonInterestening topic indeed.
After high school I skipped colege and moved to Europe. Once in a while I meet a few "students" touring Europe and they simply can't stop trying to prove their intelligence. I ask to see their passport (they always hand it over, they always do what they're told) and I rip the cover clean off. They turn white as a sheet and I leisurely walk away. Over the following week while they panic and scramble to get their affairs back in order, scared shittless they'll never get back home, they learn more about life than the four years they wasted at university.-uno

Science isn't education. Education is all of it. Anyone else wonder how the fuck they can even have teachers in schools? It boggles my fucking mind.Originally posted by NoCarrierYeah. Fuck Education.
Without it, the world would be different. I'd work 12 hours a day on a farm and die at 31 of cholera, dysentery, TB, typhoid fever, influenza, yellow fever, and malaria.Comment

Education shouldn't be about making money. It's should be about making yourself an intelligent human being. You can't understand the present unless you truly understand history. Lack of education is the reason you have a nation of people who don't really understand what their government is doing.
That being said, besides online porn slingers, it's very hard to make 6 figures or more without a good education. Welcome to the real world son.Comment

yeah, i agree with you. you should like what you do...Originally posted by aaronnice thread with interesting opinions on both sides. i think some people need it and some don't, its that simple.. the u.s. school system isn't for everyone, i actually feel as if it holds people back from their full potential a lot of the time. i think it really depends on who you are and your personality though.Comment

I know plenty of people who did that. However, they have PROFESSIONS, not JOBS.
I had four roomates. One is a successful movie actor, one is a pharmacist, one is a minister, and one is MIA.Comment

Governments and companies think of it as investments.
Parents think of it as securing the future.
The youth think of it as opportunities.
The first and last thing is interesting, because not all have those opportunities. I'm not 100% familiar with U.S. system, but from what I heard you need to have the money yourself or some special skills to get your degrees.
So basically, there are lots of wasted lifes. I can't draw a black and white picture of it, but I'm sure many criminals would not be criminals if they had the opportunities. They can't be happy by ending up in jail or on the run rest of their lifes?
Personally, I think all education should be free. Then people have a choice and there are no excuses for think of it as scam/wasted money. You see, the biggest scam is not the education itself, but the system.
Sounds like favoring communism, heh? Nope, it works if richer part of society are willing to pay for it through taxes. And much better than spending money on destructive things like military budgets.Comment

Education IS free in the U.S. It's the law that you must be provided free education up to the 12th grade. The thing is that a lot of people won't even do that! There is NO REASON that one shouldn't finish high school but it's very common.Originally posted by Dirty Dane
