I have 9 external hard drives lined up like you which I keep unplugged until I need one. I find it a nightmare to manage all those wires and find which goes where when I need it. You got a secret for this?
Last thing I noticed were the dogs on the couch. I was wondering if they each had their own set spot so they could see their favorite owner ( you or your wife ) while you worked.

As far as the drives go they are "daisy-chained" together using firewire 800 cables. only the first wire comes from the computer and we leave them all on all the time. They have actually since been moved to another room to reduce heat and noise.
The dogs always pick one side of the sofa to sit on, it's never the same side in the office.
