Should we just blow them up for him before he has a chance to launch them?

The only thing I would do...Japan has the capability of producing their own nukes and while they haven't done so and have really been against nuclear proliferation...it would be wise for them to start and for the U.S. to give Japan its blessings in this case.

They have just as much right to test missiles as the USA does. Sure, the guy is a mad man, but he should also have the right to defend his country the same as the usa does.
I think bush is a terrorist, yet he can have nukes. What's the difference. They are both mad men. At least in N Korea, they keep the problems contained there and do not invade and occupy non-hostile countries.Comment

Have we learned nothing? Do you think that long range missile really just malfunctioned? Sure it did, right after an advanced patriot missile blew it out of the air. There is no doubt in my mind we shoved that missile right back down their throat. Don't know if a Patriot could have got it fast but we malfunctioned their missile. First off the systems we want would take a missile out in the one to two minute rage after take off. The patriot missiles we have take the missile out as they are very close to the target.Originally posted by SickthingHave we learned nothing? Even if we had a dream system I don't think we could take a missile out within 45 secs. About the only thing that could possibly take out a missile that fast would be some sort of laser weapon and I'm pretty sure we don't have anything that's powerful enough to take out a missile at that distance.
We do have laser weapons that are being tested in Iraq but nothing that is long enough range to take out a launching missile. Now granted what us civilians know about is probably 5 to 10 years behind what they are working on now, but I still don't think we have something like that.
It's technically possible but I doubt we have the technology to do it just yet. Other wise we wouldn't be wasting money on some patriot system that has to wait until a missile is already on it's downward turn to take it out.
The most logical thing is the missile did just what they said it failed. Hell if you look back at our testing of rockets when we were in the space race we lost more than we launched before we finally came up with a stable platform.
Hell look at how long we have been sending guys into space and we still lose a rocket from time to time. As they say about the space shuttle when it's launching they are sitting on top of a controlled explosion. Lots of things can go wrong, the same goes for a simple unmanned missile made to carry a warhead. In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

Considering the range of the proposed missile *may* have a capability of reaching Alaska, - a state on the extreme perimeter of it's range, - why is there such a fuss when a whole range of countries fall within the 6000 mile range?? They have more reason for concern than anyone - that is, if they are concerned.
Least currently, it appears most Asian nations are not in line with the US or Japan on this and even South Korea is not a supporter of the Japanese/US "alliance".
Always amazes me the comments that get blurted out - example:
"China now has an opportunity to put its best foot forward, to send the North Koreans a direct message that these missile tests cannot be tolerated," said US Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns."
Duh? China is the decider of how it will "put it's best foot forward" and that sure ain't going to be based on some comment from a US official.
Clearly nuke proliferation is not a good idea - for anyone. It does not take more than one braincell to track the start of this problem - not only in NK but also in Iran. When countries get targetted with threats of preemptive strikes and grouped in an "Axis of Evil", common sense dicates they will take whatever measures are in their best interests. Who have we to thank for that?
Now that NK has some form of nuclear facility - those who threatened preemptive strikes are screaming the loudest. Hell.. get real.Last edited by Webby; 07-10-2006, 03:09 AM.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment

As far as whether the US shot down that missile, I'm not saying it happened but the US has Aegis cruisers in the area. One recently intercepted a warhead from a ballistic missile in a test.

The fact they let the first one fly and have gone to diplomacy, will pretty much force the take down card if they do it again while we are trying the diplomatic angle.
I doubt the US will risk a potential miss occuring post launch and instead will do a pre-emptive strike on the launch pad if its being juiced up.

Can I just add that illegitimate governments such as the ones in Iran or in the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea (
democratic, lol) do not have the right to defend themselves against attack by legitimate nations, so all this talk of 'if we have nukes why shouldn't they' is neither here nor there.
Cue some brainless idiot now claming that the US doesn't have a legitimate government because 'Chimpy Hitler McHalliBush' 'stole the election', which we know isn't true but which if it is parroted enough by the sheeple, will believed by, ummmm, the simpler members of this forum.Comment
