When all I do is work and sleep, which, having been a workaholic since I was a kid, has been most of my life, things work out pretty well. I'm not sure that is living for myself exactly, there just isn't anyone else around to worry about.
The few times I have taken a stab at a "normal" life I have maybe gone too far in the other direction, putting whoever I'm with way up on a pedestal. The results have been dismal, so I don't recommend doing the same
