Comus needs php and zend optimizer on the server. Like EVERY host has this.

Refuses to install zend? Why is that? Are they retarded? Maybe they just dont know how to install it.

Any host can support Comus, Sam. You can even run it off a virtual/shared account.

If they can't, don't use them for *any* kind of hosting.

A year ago I went through two hosts in rapid succession who couldn't or wouldn't support my Comus install. The first wouldn't install Zend, etc; the second site (a virtual plan) let me spend a week installing and then told me they didn't want my business because I was putting "too much load on their server." They didn't even offer me an alternative plan, they just fired my ass as a customer.

Since then I've been at Mojohost, and have been very happy with the service. I'm migrating all my blogs there as well, as I upgrade software.
