Let's not paint all chicks with a broad (no pun intended) brush! I kill at LEAST 3 spiders a day here in the woods. Also scorpions, moths, centipedes, ants, flying things I haven't identified, etc.
I totally freaked one guy out when I leaned over and whacked a bug on the coffee table with my hand. He said "OMG, why didn't you get the flyswatter??". I explained to him the bug would be gone by the time I got up to get the flyswatter - you have to be faster than the bugs ;) Oddly enough, I don't think I heard from him again, lol.
